Mxxx. is a very limited edition and once these bottles are gone, they will not be available for at least three more months due to the specially tinctured, natural, and ethically sourced Ambergris, Pierre d’Afrique (Africa Stone or Hyraceum), Trinidad Cacao (see below).
ERIS PARFUMS’ fifth fragrance, Mxxx., a limited edition Extrait de Parfum, continues that celebration of gender fluidity in fragrance, transposing the bright notes of Mx. into a lower register and plunging it into a more sensual, voluptuous world.
Mxxx. is extra. Extra animalic. Extra sensual. Extra rich (20% Extrait de Parfum concentration).
Spicy, smoky, woody, and animalic, Mxxx. features an extraordinary 7% overdose of specially tinctured, natural, and ethically sourced Ambergris, Pierre d’Afrique (Africa Stone or Hyraceum), and a sumptuous Trinidad Cacao developed and used for the first time ever in a fragrance.
“Eris Parfums’ Mxxx. pushes dark sensuality to a new limit. It includes specially sourced, tinctured, and aged Ambergris in a huge concentration; the rarely used animalic ingredient Pierre d’Afrique; and the richest and most refined Trinidad Cacao I’ve ever smelled, used for the first time in Mxxx. Surrender to its beauty!” — Antoine Lie, Perfumer, ALOE (Paris)
AMBERGRIS OVERDOSE AND NEW EXCLUSiVE INGREDIENTS
Mxxx. marks ERIS PARFUMS’ fifth collaboration with world-renowned French perfumer Antoine Lie and its first partnership with independent haute perfumery lab L’Atelier Français des Matières (“AFDM,” The French Atelier of Materials), benefiting from its expertise in sourcing, novel “green” extraction techniques, and painstaking care in aging and tincturing luxury ingredients such as Ambergris.
Mxxx. features AFDM’s specially tinctured Ambergris (“grey amber”) and Pierre d’Afrique (Africa Stone or Hyraceum), both from Stéphane Piquart of Behave, an organization founded on principles of transparent and sustainable sourcing, fair trade, and the empowerment of local populations.
The Ambergris provided by Behave was collected by hand from the beaches of New Caledonia. Due to its rarity and cost, fabled Ambergris — the aged and oxidized exudate from a sperm whale — is found largely in synthetic form in most perfumes listing it as an ingredient. At once sweet, earthy, marine, and animalic, natural Ambergris imparts a subtle but unmistakable glow to any elixir it joins, prolonging the longevity of the scent, as base notes do, but also adding an ineffable warmth, coziness, roundness, and sensuality that you have to smell — and feel — to understand. And in Mxxx., not only is its specially tinctured Ambergris authentic and natural, ERIS PARFUMS is also transparent about the amount used: 7%.
Mxxx.’s Pierre d'Afrique was harvested in its fossilized form from stones in Ethiopia. On its own, Pierre d’Afrique is intensely animalic. When dosed judiciously in perfume, it provides a subliminal yet potent animalic quality reminiscent of civet with a nuanced minerality.
Because these natural animalic ingredients were expelled from the animals from which they originate, no animals are involved or harmed in collecting these rare perfume ingredients, and as always, ERIS PARFUMS never tests its fragrances on animals.
In addition to these rare perfume ingredients, Mxxx. also features Madagascan “Green” Vanilla and an ultra-smooth and rich Cacao from Trinidad and Tobago, both extracted using AFDM methods that preserve the ingredient’s aromatic complexity.
The “green” Vanilla featured in Mxxx. is created not by heating and drying Vanilla beans but rather by freezing them prior to extraction, which results in an extract with a creamier, fruitier olfactive profile from vanilla cured the conventional way.
The Trinidad Cacao—selected by both perfumer Antoine Lie and a French artisanal chocolatier for its dark, spicy character—is processed with its cocoa butter intact. This choice, along with the use of a green, organic solvent and AFDM’s ultrasound technology extraction at a low temperature, results in a Cacao with its full spectrum of aromatic molecules preserved. Its use in Mxxx. marks the first time this Trinidad Cacao has ever been used in a perfume.
ABOUT L’ATELIER FRANÇAIS DES MATIÈRES
AFDM’s founder, Rémi Pulvérail, has developed enduring relationships with elite producers of precious perfumery ingredients after spending decades sourcing rare ingredients for the world’s largest perfume houses. In 2015, he launched AFDM to provide the rare and unique natural ingredients to contemporary perfumers, using state-of-the-art extraction techniques, with the goal of returning perfumery to its artisanal roots. The Ambergris in Mxxx., for example, was selected by Jean-Philippe Paris, AFDM’s scientific director, who developed an exclusive tincture (infusion) over the course of six months, until it was deemed by AFDM and ERIS PARFUMS’ perfumer Antoine Lie, to be in its ideal form. The Mxxx. formula was also compounded and bottled at AFDM.
