Eris Parfums

Eris Parfums at Indigo Perfumery

Vintage perfume expert and author of Scent and Subversion, Barbara Herman launched her luxury fragrance brand, ERIS PERFUMES, by first debuting three fragrances composed by renowned French perfumer, Antoine Lie.

Named after Eris, the Greek goddess of troublemaking and disruption, the brand ERIS PARFUMS celebrates unconventional beauty and subversive glamour.

"La Belle et la Bête" (Beauty and the Beast) is a collection of 3 perfumes, inspired by the bold eroticism of vintage, animals, and floral perfumes:

BELLE DE JOUR, NIGHT FLOWER and MA BÊTE

Each scent in ERIS PARFUMS’ premiere collection represents a collision between the FLORAL and the ANIMAL, Femininity and Masculinity, Comfort and Danger, Elegance and Raw Animal Desire.

Their animalic notes highlight the erotic scents of the body through mimicry: the warmth of skin, the smell of hair, the scent of desire.

Meant to be worn at 3 am, who’s to say you can’t wear these at 9 am?

Just don’t say we didn’t warn you...

MX. was the fourth perfume, commemorating the gender revolution with a scent that is truly for all genders. Mxxx., the limited edition Extrait de Parfum, followed. Barbara described MXXX.:

"the triple XXX xtends that invitation with the lights turned down low — and the animalic growl turned up.”

MXXX. added the specially tinctured, natural, and ethically sourced Ambergris, Pierre d’Afrique (Africa Stone or Hyraceum), and Trinidad Cacao to make it extra. Extra animalic. Extra sensual. Extra rich (20% Extrait de Parfum concentration).

ABOUT THE PERFUMER

With one foot in the mainstream and another in the avant garde, independent Paris perfumer Antoine Lie of ALOE (Antoine Lie Olfactive Experiences) has been behind huge commercial successes such as Calvin Klein Contradiction, Armani Code, Versace Crystal Noir, and Wonderwood by Comme des Garçons, as well as subversive cult classics such as État Libre d’Orange’s Sécrétions Magnifiques and Rien. In 2012, Barbara interviewed Antoine for the “Scent Visionaries” section of her book, Scent and Subversion: Decoding a Century of Provocative Perfume (Lyons Press, 2013). In appreciation of his bold and imaginative style, she later asked him to work with her on ERIS PARFUMS’ first collection.

BRAND AND PACKAGING INSPIRATION

ERIS PARFUMS launched in 2016 to critical acclaim for its bold reinterpretation of the animalic floral perfume category for contemporary audiences. Named after the Greek goddess of disruption and troublemaking, the brand celebrates unconventional beauty and subversive glamour.

ERIS PARFUMS’ column-like bottle evokes the modernist chic simplicity of the 1930s, while its glossy, patent leather-like label perched on the bottle’s edge hints at the daringly erotic contents inside. Its minimalist white box is slashed with a glossy, fetishistic black band, reminiscent of a lover’s blindfold.
